Peninsula of Central Sulawesi |  | The pensinsula of central Sulawesi is a surprisingly good diving area. The quality of the dive spot is great.
There are nice underwater landscapes which a covered with corals and a lot of other animals. In addition to the for Sulawesi typical load of small and weird creatures, chances are good to see larger lifeforms too. On one single dive at a site named Tanduk, which consist of a group of very nice boomies, I saw a dolphin, a manta ray, a turtle and a Napoleon wrasse plus loads of other smaller stuff. We repeated the dive to days later and saw another manta ray, plus a eagle ray.
When we visited the area, it was the time for the tobis to mate. On some dives, the whole ground below is was covered with millions of tobis who where extremely busy with each other. Usualy they are just cute little fish which you see quite often, but this time it was a awsome view. On night dives they even tried to follow my torch. Since there were thousand of the who were moving in my direction, I sometimes felt like in a a small avalanche of fish. Two day later the show of over and almost of of them had disappeared.
Above the water, you might see (if your lucky to be at the right place) some Maleo birds. There endemic in the region and are a endangered species. They lay their eggs into fairly deep holes which they dig in the sand. |
